Statewide schedule — read this before you rely on it
Counties and municipalities all use the same four statutory dates, though individual governing bodies may adopt a 10-day grace period and set interest at or below the statutory caps. Most counties in this state follow these dates.
An installment unpaid after its date is delinquent and draws interest under N.J.S.A. 54:4-67 of up to 8% a year on the first $1,500 and 18% above that, plus a 6% year-end penalty on delinquencies over $10,000, although a municipality may allow a 10-day grace period.
Municipal tax bills are issued annually before February 1, with the first two quarters estimated and the last two recalculated once the county and school levies are certified.
